Honda Civic facelift launched in Malaysia
Honda Malaysia has officially introduced an updated variant of its ninth-generation FB Civic today, refreshing one of its key-selling models with value-added features and a bolder new appearance.
A mainstay in the Malaysian C-segment market, the Civic is made even more attractive a preposition with prices lowered across the board, starting RM2,180 lower than its predecessor at RM113,800 with insurance for the base 1.8S model, which now enjoys the convenience of keyless entry, cruise control, and auto headlamps.
The 2.0-litre models see even bigger price reductions, with the 2.0S dropping from RM131,980 to RM125,800 and the 2.0 Navi model going from RM136,980 to RM132,800. Both models also gain auto headlamps and side curtain airbags bringing the total airbag count of these two variants to six. The 2.0 Navi model also receives enhancements to its 7″ touchscreen head unit.
Honda Malaysia Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Mr. Yoichiro Ueno said, “The upgrades and enhancements in the New Civic are based on our customers’ feedback and from our evaluation of the market expectations. We are determined to deliver customer satisfaction at the highest level by providing high quality products with the best value for money in order to increase the joy of owning a Honda car.”
Mechanical underpinnings are carried over from the pre-facelift model, with the same pair of 1.8- and 2.0-litre SOHC i-VTEC models providing outputs of 139hp/174Nm and 153hp/190Nm respectively. Both engines continue to their proven partnerships with Honda’s venerable 5-speed automatic transmission. Launch of the hybrid version is pending confirmation at this stage, but Honda Malaysia is still holding stocks of the pre-facelift model if anyone’s interested.
From the outside, the new Civic can be identified by its revised and more aggressive new front and lower grille assemblies. Engine variants can be differentiated from each other by their respective wheel sizes – 16 inches for the 1.8 and 17 inches for the 2.0. In addition to existing colours of Taffeta White, Alabaster Silver Metallic, Modern Steel Metallic and Crystal Black Pearl, the Civic also offers the choice of a new colour, namely Twilight Blue.
To date, Honda has sold a total 16,900 units of the ninth-generation FB Civic since its launch in 2012; with the newly-facelifted model, the company aims to sell 7,500 units of the Civic per year. As with most recent Honda models, the new Civic is covered by a five-year unlimited mileage warranty with service intervals of 10,000km. For the first six services up to 100,000km, labour charge is waived for every alternate service.
