Volvo XC60 T6 Drive-E now available in Malaysia

Volvo Car Malaysia today announces the immediate availability of a new variant of its hugely successful XC60 premium mid-sized SUV. The new XC60 T6 joins the existing T5 model in showrooms becoming the second Volvo model in Malaysia to be powered by an engine from the company’s new Drive-E powertrain family.

Built on the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder block as the T5’s engine, the T6 adds a supercharger to equation complementing the existing turbocharger and direct injection systems already found in the T5. The result of this enhancement is considerable – from the T5’s already potent 245hp and 350Nm outputs, the T6 muscles out 306hp and 400Nm, identical figures to the company’s previous 3.0-litre 6-cylinder engine that featured in earlier versions of this model.

Like the T5, the XC60 T6 is mated to an Aisin 8-speed automatic transmission as standard and driving the front wheels only – we are expecting hilarious torque steer and wheel spin. On paper, Volvo claims a century sprint time of 6.9 seconds and fuel consumption of 7.3 l/100km on the combined cycle; compared to 7.2 seconds and 6.7 l/100km of the T5.

Externally, the new XC60 T6 sports the same facelifted appearance as its T5 sibling. Standard tyres specified are 235/60 R18, with 20″ rollers available as optional upgrades – from our recent memory with the T5 test car, we strongly discourage this option. Other decorative accessories such as running board, aluminium steps, and various mouldings are also optionally available to enhance the vehicle’s appearance.

Safety continues to assume paramount importance in the XC60; the T6 builds on the T5’s already comprehensive range of safety features by adding on active high beam control, Driver Alert Control, road sign recognition, and lane departure warning. Autonomous safety aids include adaptive cruise control, queue assist, and autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection capability.

The additional performance and features of the T6 model comes at a RM27,000 premium over the T5 model with an introductory on-the-road price of RM315,888 without insurance for limited units. As with all new Volvos, the XC60 T6 will come with a 5-year warranty, 5 years of free service including parts per scheduled maintenance, and 5 years of free roadside assist (Volvo-on-Call).
