Another month of record sales for Ford
Ford’s soaring momentum continues unabated with another month of record sales. A total of 1,390 vehicles were sold in the month of July, edging the previous record of 1,307 managed just a month earlier. Year-on-year, the numbers represent a 60 percent increase from the corresponding month of 2013.
“This is a great way to kick-off the second half of the year. We know that in addition to prioritising value for money, Malaysian drivers also look for segment-leading safety features and smart technologies. With this record sales month, our global Ford vehicles are clearly delivering on these needs,” said David Westerman, managing director, Malaysia and Asia Pacific Emerging Markets, Ford Motor Company.
Sales continue to be driven by strong demand for the Ranger, Fiesta, and Kuga supported by an expanding network of Ford showrooms in Malaysia. The Ranger, which was recently enhanced by an updated safety pack that now sees stability control specified in all variants, continues to lead the way, its sales more than double that of last July’s numbers with 868 units. To date, some 4,535 units of the Ranger have been sold in 2014.
Next biggest contributor continues to be the Fiesta, its sales also surged by huge margins from July 2013 – 347 units sold, up 158 percent year-on-year. Launched locally in 2010, the Fiesta was updated last September with a facelift that introduced a new 1.5-litre Ti-VCT engine; the range was then supplemented by the award-winning 1.0-litre earlier this year.
Also contributing to the month’s record sales numbers is the Kuga, which sold 102 units in July and 580 in total year-to-date. All in, Ford’s year-to-date sales as of July adds up to 7,910 units, 30 percent up from the corresponding time frame last year.
“Our momentum this year will be given another boost with the launch of the all-new EcoSport SUV later this month. The addition of another segment-leading global Ford vehicle will also help to continue our successful product-led transformation in Malaysia,” said Westerman.
