Sales of Ford vehicles in Malaysia continue to see an upward trend with a new records for monthly and half-yearly sales simultaneously rewritten in June. Compared to the corresponding periods in 2013, June sales went up 58 percent to 1,307 vehicles, whilst the first six months of the year saw sales up by 25 percent to close at 6,520 units.

“Malaysian consumers are discerning in their desire for quality, smart and safe vehicles that are also economical and fun to drive. We are delighted that they are responding so enthusiastically to the segment-leading global Ford vehicles we have introduced to the market, and we look forward to continuing to build on this growing momentum,” said David Westerman, managing director, Malaysia and Asia Pacific Emerging Markets, Ford Motor Company.

The Ranger continues to be the brand’s main seller, and sales are still increasing despite being already two years in the market. For the month of June, Ranger sales were up 64 percent year-on-year with 728 units sold, adding up to a first half total of 3,667 units, a not inconsiderable 43 percent increase from 2013. Recently, the Ranger was enhanced with a class-leading safety package that now offers stability control and ISOFIX as standard for all variants.

“With these upgrades, the Ranger has added to its credentials as the safest pickup truck in the market. And with availability nationwide across the entire line-up, Ford is able to meet the extraordinary demand for the Ranger in Malaysia,” Westerman remarked.

Next biggest key contributor in the line-up is the Fiesta, updated with new powertrains – the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated Ti-VCT engine last year followed by the three-time International Engine of the Year 1.0-litre EcoBoost. June sales of the Fiesta doubled to 410 units, with year-to-date sales standing at 1,778 units.

Rounding out the numbers are the Focus and Kuga, which sold 575 and 478 units respectively. In a statement, the company confirms without elaborating that a further two variants of the Kuga are on their way, joining the EcoSport and Fiesta ST as upcoming launches in the latter half of this year.

“This really is an exciting time for Ford in Malaysia, and we remain absolutely committed to further growing our business and providing each and every one of our current and future customers with an unmatched ownership experience,” concluded Westerman.
