Proton Prevé CFE 6 M/T open for bookings

When we first tested the Proton Prevé after its launch, one of our immediate opinions was that the car would have been so much better to drive had it been offered with the combination of a manual transmission with its turbocharged CFE engine.

Reports have surfaced on social media today attributed to a Mr Retroper Ekaf confirming that Proton dealerships have begun order taking of the much-anticipated manual transmission version of the Prevé CFE.

Anticipating the niche but undeniably enthusiastic demand this model will inevitably command, Proton is positioning the Prevé CFE manual as the line-up’s new range-topper, with an official of RM79,611.20 being much higher than the existing Prevé CFE CVT at RM72,839.50 and almost level with the Prevé LE at RM79,688.00.

To justify the inflated price tag, Proton throws in not only a 6-speed manual transmission from Getrag, but also a reprogrammed ECU that bumps up the 1.6-litre turbocharged CFE engine’s outputs from its current 138hp and 205Nm to a more potent 153hp and 235Nm. There is no mention if this engine/transmission combo will be introduced in the Suprima S as well, but that’s a likelihood not to be chalked off.

On the equipment front, the new Prevé CFE 6 M/T will feature a high level of kit with a manifest including 17” alloy rims, auto folding side mirror, daytime running lights, HID headlight, push-start system, six airbags, ESC, ABS, EBD and leather seats.

Editor’s Note (2/4/2014): The above is a spoof article published in conjunction with April Fool 2014. Don’t be disheartened, however; development of a Prevé CFE 6 M/T is real and the car can be expected to hit the market within the next one year or so, just that it may still have ‘only’ 138hp.
