Touted as the ‘best car in the world’, the New Mercedes-Benz S-Class is here and available for booking. Brought in by Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, the line-up includes a hybrid version with two petrol models; S 400 Hybrid CKD, S 500 CBU and S 63 AMG CBU.

“The new S-Class embodies our leadership aspirations like no other model. It marks the beginning of a new era of modern luxury and safety in cars. Rather than being about safety or aesthetics, power or efficiency, comfort or dynamism, our aspirations were ‘the best or nothing’ in every aspect. No other car stands for the Mercedes-Benz brand promise more than the S-Class,’ says Kai Schlickum, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Passenger Cars for Mercedes-Benz.

The New S-Class is a real statement of stature, class, and wealth. Possibly every business man or tycoon should have either owned one or may previous models prior to this one. One of the first key features of the new S-Class is the adoption of a completely new lighting system in the vehicle that runs solely on LEDs. It is the first ever car to run without a single light bulb. From the interior to the exterior of the car, the New S-Class would be the pioneers in the lighting sector for automobiles, and would be the first for multi-level functionality. In the night, rear road users behind the New S-Class would be pleased with its reduced brightness for its brakes lights. Almost 500 LEDs illuminate the road, the vehicle, the interior and the boot. Headlamps comprise of 56 LEDs each; Each Tail Light with 35 LEDs (plus 4 for the rear fog lamp) and the interior with approximately 300 LEDs.

The S 400 Hybrid is a 6 cylinder engine with 3498cc with a rated output of 225kW at 6500rpm that pushes 306HP. The electric motor pushes 20kW, and the engine torque is at 370Nm at 3500rpm-5250rpm. Combined fuel consumption is 6.3l per 100km, with a top speed of 250km/h. The new S-Class is also the first car of its kind to have the ability to detect bumps on the road ahead. If ROAD SURFACE SCAN detects unevenness by means of the stereo camera, MAGIC BODY CONTROL instantaneously sets up the suspension to deal with the situation. This innovation is an option for the eight cylinder models which is the S 500 and S 63 AMG.

The S-Class is designed with the comforts and luxury for its rear passenger which is first class. An individualization feature, the “First Class rear suite” incorporates a Business Centre console combining personal comfort with practical convenience. There is more leg room now in comparison to the previous model as the development was focused on a long-wheelbase saloon. Being a definite chauffeur-driven vehicle in Asia, whilst in Europe and North America the owners themselves are behind the wheel, it is no doubt that the new S-Class embodies new features specifically related to comfort and safety in the rear to the front cabin as well.

The All-New S-Class starts with a price tag of just under RM900,000 for the S 400 Hybrid, RM 1.08 million for the S 500 and RM 1.06 million for the S 63 AMG. The S 63 price may vary as the owners are able to spec the car according to what features they would require.
