Ford Previews Next Generation Everest Concept at Bangkok Motorshow 2014
Ford unveiled its next generation Everest SUV concept at the Bangkok Motor Show 2014, which opened its doors to the media yesterday (25 March 2014). Traditionally, the Ford Everest is an off-shoot of the Ford Ranger, being built on the same ladder frame chassis of the Ranger, but with a 7-seater SUV body replacing the front cabin and the rear cargo deck. Following the third generation launch of the Ranger, the new Everest moves away from the previous practice of having an identical or almost identical front end an extending it backwards to make an SUV body – this time, the front end is ‘softened’ somewhat, which I presume is to make it more appealing to a broader base.
The Ford Everest was ‘created by Ford’s regional design and product development team, will be produced in Thailand for global sale.
The concept vehicle has progressed beyond clay model stage, and is in the ‘production intent’ stage, with most parts of the body already engineered for production; thus the finished product will look pretty much the same as what was presented.
No specifications were released, but it is highly likely that there will be a 2.2 litre and a 3.2 litre diesel, both of which are offered with the current Ford Ranger.
