Ford Transit to hit showrooms in April
Ford officially completes its return to the local assembly scene in Malaysia, with the first CKD units of the Ford Transit having just rolled out of Inokom’s plant in Kulim, Kedah, and confirmed to hit Ford showrooms nationwide this April.
Launched globally in 2006, the fifth-generation Transit will be offered to Malaysians with a choice of two variants – the 13-seat Passenger Van and the Panel Van 350L – both powered by a 2.2L TDCi engine mated with a six-speed manual transmission. The Transit is currently sold on 6 continents in 116 markets globally. Over 7 million units have been sold worldwide.
“The on-going success of our One Ford Plan has enabled us to assemble this segment-leading product in Malaysia to provide commercial vehicle customers here with all the durability, capability and safety that has made Transit a global success and an iconic brand for Ford,” said David Westerman, managing director, Malaysia and Asia Pacific Emerging Markets, Ford Motor Company.
Pre-launch bookings are said to be strong, and to cater for the needs of these new buyers, Ford plans to launch a network of specialist commercial vehicle (CV) centres by the end of the year. These centres are catered for the specific needs of commercial vehicle operations, offering extended opening hours to help minimise vehicle downtime and reduce overall cost of ownership.
Ford was the fastest-growing automotive brand in Malaysia last year, recording its best annual performance in 20 years with overall retail sales jumping 50 percent to 10,660 units.
