Ducati Monster 796 Corse Stripe launched in Malaysia
The Ducati Monster family grows yet again with a new addition to the range following the launch of the 796 Corse Stripe today. The Monster family history dates back over 20 years to the original Monster’s debut in 1992, and this latest incarnation is said to combine the user-friendliness of the 696 with the sporty nature of the 1100.
“The Monster range continues to captivate motorcyclists across the globe with its subtle evolution. The 796 is a refined and sophisticated machine which boasts the unmistakable Monster style and has become the new ‘urban icon’ of hand-built Italian naked motorcycles,” said Dautk Wira SM Faisal Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin, Joint Group Executive Chairman of the Naza Group of Companies.
Externally identifiable by its striking livery and the trusses of its Trellis frame, the 796 Corse Stripe is powered by Ducati’s 803cc L-twin Desmodue engine with rated outputs of 87hp @ 8,250rpm and 78Nm @ 6,250rpm. Transmission has six forward ratios and a hydraulic wet multi-plate clutch.
Suspension set up is comprised of a 43mm Kayaba fork up front, whilst the rear wheel is sprung on a single-side swingarm controlled by adjustable Sachs spring and dampers. Disc brakes front and rear provide stopping power, managed by anti-lock brakes.
Priced at RM63,888, the Ducati Monster 796 Corse Stripe is available in Malaysia as a CKD from Thailand. Datuk Wira SM Faisal estimates that this model will contribute 35% of Ducati’s total sales in Malaysia for 2014.
At the new bike’s launch event today, which took place at Ducati’s PJ flagship showroom, Ducati Malaysia also announced the Ducati Safety Course (DSC) programme, as a prelude to the global Ducati Riding Experience (DRE) programme with difficulty levels ranging from beginner to advanced. The DSC beginner course covers basics such as proper riding style, maintenance, and bike familiarization.
The first DSC programme will take place this weekend at the flagship showroom. Members of the public can drop by and try out a simplified version of the programme, a teaser, for free.
