Proton Persona SV launched at mega carnival in Shah Alam

Malaysian motorists seeking for an affordable three-box sedan can now consider the new ‘Super Value’ version of the Persona, dubbed the Persona SV, that was launched at the Proton Bola! Bola! Bola Mega Test Drive Carnival in Shah Alam last weekend.

On-the-road pricing of the new variant starts at RM44,938 with insurance for the manual version with solid paint. Metallic paint is a RM450 cost option and automatic transmission correspondingly adds RM3,000 to the price tag, putting the most expensive possible combination at RM48,388 for a metallic-coloured automatic unit.

Compared to the existing Persona 1.6 Standard (previously known as the Persona B-Line), the new Persona SV sees a price reduction of just under RM2,600, but crucially sees its specs sheet enhanced by rear disc brakes, dual airbags, ABS, EBD, and alloy wheels. Interestingly, this would be the first variant of the Persona that offers a combination of manual transmission and rear disc brakes, good news for enthusiast drivers on a budget.

The Persona Standard remains on sale with prices ranging between RM47,533.50 and RM50,983.50. As before, this higher-priced variant is ironically offered with lower mechanical specs than the SV with rear drums, driver airbag, steel rims, and no ABS. It gets a bigger accessories package, however, including items such as coil mats, multi-purpose container, door visors, first aid kit, security etching, luggage tray, tint film, safety triangle, and trunk lid cover.

All variants of the Persona continue to be powered by Proton’s 1.6-litre S4PH Campro IAFM engine producing 110hp @ 6,500rpm and 148Nm @ 4,000rpm. It is offered with a choice of two Mitsubishi transmissions – a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic.
