Volkswagen Occupies Largest Booth Space at KLIMS
KUALA LUMPUR, 14 November 2013 – The Volkswagen booth at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2013 is worth a visit, as it occupies the largest display area for a single brand, covering a total of 1,100 square metres of space. Visitors to the Volkswagen booth will be able to view the full product line-up, from the little Polo to the Touareg, and in addition, there are some other items of interest as additional treats. The Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show will run up till 24th November, and is open from morning till late every day. Themed “Come Together. Volkswagen Das Auto”, it is a display of a Volkswagen to fit every Malaysian’s pocketbook size, comprising 19 cars.
Additional highlights throughout the ten-day show include a unique special ‘cut out’ model of the Golf and an exclusive Beetle Fender Edition.
Volkswagen Malaysia has unveiled the new Polo 1.6 Hatch, and it is there for you to browse through. The first roll-out is expected by next month (December 2013), and the good news is that it will be locally assembled, and thus will be at a very competitive price. Actual retail price has yet to be announced, but speculation is that it will be priced very close to the 2014 Polo Sedan, also locally assembled, launched just last week.
The new Polo 1.6 is the third Volkswagen model to be locally assembled after the introduction of the Passat in March 2012 and the 2014 Polo Sedan. Targeting the young and design-oriented buyers, the car will add on to VW’s range of affordable German engineered vehicles in Malaysia.
The new Polo 1.6 boasts excellent handling and has numerous notable features, particularly the RCD 320 radio system which offers best-in-class connectivity, ‘Climatronic’ automatic air conditioning system and Intelligent Crash Response System (ICRS). The Polo Hatch is equipped with a 1.6 litre 16-Valve MPI engine that produces 105 PS and maximum torque of 153Nm at 3,800 RPM. Drive is to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic. Fuel consumption is mooted at 6.3 litres per 100 kilometres, or 15.9 km/litre.
“Our third locally assembled model, the new Polo 1.6 is an expansion of our Polo family to reach the most important segment in the local automotive market. With its sporty and dynamic design, the new Polo 1.6 is targeted at younger audience or the young-at-heart customers,” said Dr Zeno Kerschbaumer, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Malaysia.
The Polo family is the highlight for VW at KLIMS 2013. Joining the third locally assembled new Polo 1.6 on stage is the much desired Polo GTI and the Polo Sedan.
Hot from its victory streak at the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) 2013, starting with its debut win at the Rally Monte Carlo and creating history by winning the Manufacturer’s, Driver’s and Co-Driver’s title in its first year of competition. To date this is Volkswagen’s greatest motorsport achievement. Since the birth of the World Rally Championship, Volkswagen is so far the only manufacturer to make a clean sweep of all the major titles in its first year of participation. In celebration of the Polo WRC’s series of wins, Volkswagen is displaying a special customised Polo Edition WRC for Malaysian fans. ( Editor’s note: At the current time, our local hero Karamjit Singh is rallying a Polo hatch in India – if we are lucky, we may get to see the Polo in action here in Malaysian rallies; the Polo hatch is potentially a good rally car, so motorsports enthusiasts will be looking at the CKD model with interest from here on).
The Golf, which is the true representation of the Volkswagen philosophy, and crowned the World Car of the Year 2013 is also on display at KLIMS. With its timeless design and build that has been continuously refined, the Golf imbibes the spectrum of German engineering, modernity, efficiency, comfort and environmental friendliness. The car boasts Volkswagen’s TSI engine with BLUEMOTION technology and DSG technology producing a combined fuel consumption of 5 litres per 100km (20km per litre) and an impressive CO2 output of just 116g/km.
On showcase at the motor show is a unique ‘cut out’ model of the Golf. This one-of-a-kind special ‘cut out’ model will be educational to visitors on how a well-engineered automobile is made up, and shows some of the innovation behind Volkswagen’s fuel efficiency technologies and the car’s advanced safety features.
The Beetle Fender Edition is a unique version of the car equipped with a sound system designed by Fender – a legend in the music business. The Beetle Fender Edition comes with eight speakers, a subwoofer, and a 400-watt amplifier to turn every drive into a concert. Inside the car, every detail hits the perfect note. Featuring an interior inspired by the sunburst design of the iconic Fender™ Stratocaster™ guitar, The Beetle Fender Edition car adds a twist to the iconic Beetle. Visitors stepping into The Beetle Fender Edition will experience the welcoming interior and understand the unique combination between two legends, The Beetle and Fender.
“KLIMS 2013 is a significant exhibition for us as we have brought to the people some very interesting models that showcase the best of German engineering. Through our range of vehicles, we aspire to give car enthusiasts, Volkswagen lovers, and the people a fun time experiencing the quality and diversity of our brand and the sophistication of the technologies we offer,” said Dr Kerschbaumer.
Volkswagen is featuring a comprehensive portfolio of its global models such as the Polo family, Golf family, Jetta, Passat, Volkswagen CC, The Beetle, Scirocco, Cross Touran, Sharan, Tiguan and Touareg TDI – offering a car for individuals from all walks of life.
Advocating awareness on fuel efficiency and sustainability, the German carmaker is also continuing its efforts in reminding Malaysians to “Think Blue.” and adopt an environmentally sustainable behaviour. As such, a corner of the booth is dedicated to “Think Blue”, where Volkswagen’s ambassadors will share fuel saving tips to assist people in improving their driving habits by helping them develop awareness on fuel efficiency and reduction of CO2 emission. The tips given leverage on how to maximise fuel efficiency by using the Think Blue Technologies incorporated in Volkswagen car designs, but some of the tips can be applied to everyday driving. (Editor’s Note: The speaker is a well-known rally and autocross veteran who not only can drive fast, but can drive economically as well; He is giving the presentation on a scheduled basis, so do come and listen to the ‘Think Blue’ pointers.)
In addition, Volkswagen is also offering its latest promotional packages, accessories and limited edition KLIMS 2013 merchandise. On top of that, Maybank customers who visit the motor show at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) from November 15 to 24 will stand a chance to win the iconic Beetle.
