Improved 2013 Toyota Hilux launched

UMW Toyota Motor has unveiled an updated version of its popular Toyota Hilux pick-up truck today. At the launch event held today in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Datuk Ismet Suki, President of UMW Toyota Motor, said the new features were included after taking into consideration of the feedback from Toyota customers.

There are no changes made to the line-up of variants, with the existing VNT turbodiesel engines continuing service under the hood in 2.5- and 3.0-litre capacities. All variants operate 4×4 drivetrains as standard. The range starts with the 2.5-litre Single Cab model with 5-speed manual transmission priced at RM77,105.10 with insurance.

The Double Cab configuration, meanwhile, is offered in four variants, ranging from the standard 2.5-litre manual at RM87,605.10 going all the way up to the 3.0G automatic at RM109,199.90. In between them are the 2.5G manual and automatic variants going for RM95,005.10 and RM100,005.10 respectively.

Among improvements quoted by UMW Toyota Motor for the new 2013 Hilux are 17-inch alloy rims for the 3.0G model and a supposedly new front fog lamp design (they look exactly the same to us). There’s more to write home about inside, however; the interior gets a darker shade and the front seat belts now incorporate pre-tensioners and force limiters. An added touch of luxury for the 3.0G flagship is the inclusion of leather trim and electric driver seat adjustment.

By far the most popular pick-up truck in Malaysia and many other markets worldwide, Toyota has sold over 4.5 million units of the current generation Hilux worldwide, with more than 145,000 units in Malaysia up to September 2013. This year alone, UMW Toyota Motor has sold close to 18,000 units of the Hilux, and since order taking started for this improved variant on 17 September some 800 bookings have been received.

UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd is targeting to sell more than 29,000 units of the Hilux Improvement next year. The 2013 Hilux Improvement will be available at all Toyota showrooms throughout Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsula Malaysia from 25 October onwards.
