Shell FuelSave College Competition 2013 launched
The Shell FuelSave College Competition 2013 was officially launched by Tuan Haji Azman Ismail, Managing Director of Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn. Bhd. and Shell Timur Sdn. Bhd. Also present at the launch was Dato’ Amrin bin Awaluddin, Group Managing Director of Media Prima Berhad.
This year’s contest will challenge students from universities and colleges to create a multi-channel communications campaign to educate the next generation of Malaysians on making smart spending and driving choices as young adults entering the real world. The competition also aims to provide students with first-hand experience of the working world and exposing them to the whole spectrum of putting a campaign together.
The six participating teams are from HELP University, IACT College, Sunway University, Taylor’s University, Tunku Abdul Rahman University College and UCSI University, and they were briefed last week on the tasks for the competition and were given essential tips to guide them in developing their ideas for their campaigns during a special mentoring session.
After the competition’s official launch yesterday, the participating teams were gathered to present their campaign proposal to a panel of judges, putting them in a scenario simulating an actual boardroom experience. Each team were given 20 minutes to present their case and they were also allowed to bring their own contingent of supporters to watch on.
“Outstanding! I am really impressed with the level of creativity and unique ideas presented by the teams today. Clearly, they put a lot of thought into their proposals to come up with some truly innovative campaigns to educate and encourage students to make smart choices when it comes to spending,” said Tuan Haji Azman, Managing Director of Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn. Bhd.
“As one of the judges, it was inspiring to see the students so passionate about their ideas and interesting to listen to new ways in capturing the attention of the younger generation today. I was also impressed with the level of confidence the students had during their presentation,” he added.
A key highlight during the presentation was the 60 seconds pitch where teams had to pitch the overall campaign concept in 60 seconds to the judges. Five of the teams made exceptional pitches that ‘wowed’ the judges and took home RM1,000 additional seed money for their campaign activation.
Following their proposal presentation, teams will now have to bring their ideas to life by executing their proposed activities at their campus grounds. To hype the on-ground activities further, Fahrin Ahmad, Shell FuelSave Ambassador will be visiting each of the six campuses to lend his support to their activities.
According to Tuan Haji Azman, “The Shell FuelSave College Competition is part of Shell’s smarter mobility agenda to educate and promote fuel efficiency and savings and promote smarter energy use amongst the world’s motorists. This is why it is crucial we start educating young adults while they are still at an impressionable age and instill in them smart spending and saving habits.”
The winning university or college team will be crowned the Shell FuelSave College Competition Champion 2013 and will bring home RM15, 000, a championship trophy as well as potential internship opportunities with Shell Malaysia and its media and international communications agency partners. First runner-up will win RM8, 000 and a plaque, followed by RM5, 000 and a plaque for the second runner up. Each team is provided with RM4000 seed money to develop their campaigns.
