BMW X1 & X3 Diesels Now Available in CKD in Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur, 12th September 2013 – Following the successful introduction of the locally assembled BMW X1 sDrive20i and BMW X3 xDrive20i earlier this year, BMW Group Malaysia today introduced the Advanced Diesel powered variants of the highly successful premium SAVs – the BMW X1 xDrive20d and BMW X3 xDrive20d. The new variants are the latest BMW vehicles to be assembled at the BMW Group Malaysia’s Assembly Plant in Kulim, Kedah.
Introducing the new BMW X models, Dr. Gerhard Pils, Chief Executive Officer of BMW Group Malaysia said, “The introduction of the locally assembled diesel variants of the new BMW X models today signifies our strong commitment in building more cars here in Malaysia. With wider engine portfolios now available from our locally assembled models, we are confident that these new vehicles will further allow us to optimize our supply to customers throughout the country, reduce waiting time, as well as offer even greater product choices for our customers in the country.”
BMW Advanced Diesel Technology and BMW xDrive Systems:
At the heart of the BMW X1 xDrive20d and BMW X3 xDrive20d is a two-litre, four-cylinder common-rail direct injection and highly fuel efficient BMW Advanced Diesel power plant, boasting 135kW and 184 horsepower. Both of the new locally assembled X models are fitted with 8-speed automatic transmission as standard.
The BMW X1 xDrive20d accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.0 seconds with a top speed of 205 km/h, yet has a rated average fuel consumption of just 5.4 litres per 100km. Meanwhile, the BMW X3 xDrive20d takes only 8.5 seconds to achieve a 0-100 km/h sprint with a top speed of 212 km/h while fuel consumption is rated at 5.6 litres per 100km.

It is a demonstration of the effectiveness of our BMW EfficientDynamics strategy and our commitment in spreading the good word on Advanced Diesel Technology as a cleaner and greener alternative. In fact, the technology is one of the most immediate solutions to the rising cost of fuel in the country at the current moment.”
Like any other contemporary BMW models, the new locally assembled BMW X1 xDrive20d and BMW X3 xDrive20d also arrive with a broad spread of BMW EfficientDynamics technology fitted as standard which leads to reduced Carbon Dioxide (CO₂) emissions readings of only 143 grams in the BMW X1 xDrive20d and 147 grams in the BMW X3 xDrive20d. These efficiencies are achieved courtesy of Break Energy Regeneration, Electromechanical Steering, ECO PRO Mode, demand-based control of ancillary components and functions, as well as the Auto Start/Stop function in combination with the 8-speed automatic transmission.
Providing further Sheer Driving Pleasure in the new diesel powered BMW X1xDrive20d and BMW X3xDrive20d is BMW’s famed xDriveall-wheel drive system that ensures that the vehicles have the best traction at all times especially on fast bends. The xDrive system allows drive acceleration to be variably distributed between the front and rear axles resulting in enhanced agility and higher levels of grip, a particularly useful quality for Sports Activity Vehicles when cornering.
The xDrive system is also connected to Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and the engine management on the vehicles with sensors on the wheels to detect and counter the slightest tendency to over-steer or under-steer. DSC comprising of the ABS anti-lock brake function, Dynamic Brake Control, Cornering Brake Control and Dynamic Traction Control provides added stability to the new BMW X1xDrive20d and BMW X3 xDrive20d

Blending the versatility and robustness of a BMW X model with high levels of agility and compact exterior dimensions, the BMW X1 sets new standards in the SAV segment. Externally, the BMW X1 combines the handsome and rugged look of the BMW X family with a youthful sporty dynamism of the BMW 1 Series. In the new locally assembled units, the new BMW X1 xDrive20d sees additional components such as the X Line package which includes exterior trims fitted at the front bumper and side window seals as well as 18” light alloy Y-Spoke wheels that further accentuates its established confident look.

The new locally assembled BMW X3 xDrive20d, meanwhile, is the perfect representation of the BMW Group’s vision of success, combining all the traits of the BMW X Series –ruggedness and driving superiority with the latest developments in sustainability from BMW EfficientDynamics and the latest innovations of BMW ConnectedDrive.
Aesthetically, the new BMW X3 xDrive20d sees impressive improvements which include a panoramic glass roof fitted as standard. Also new to the BMW X3 xDrive20d are the 18” Light Alloy Y-Spoke Style 308 wheels along with aluminium satin roof rails and an automatically operated tailgate courtesy of Comfort Access which are fitted as standard.
New additions in the interior of the BMW X3 xDrive20d offer sporty and superior quality fittings with a sports leather steering wheel and aluminium interior trim finishers.The asymmetrical instrument panel and centre console is orientated towards the driver while the Navigation System Professional, which includes an 8.8-inch monitor and 12 loudspeaker hi-fi system are featured as a standard offering in the BMW X3 to ensure all infotainment, convenience and safety requirements of BMW ConnectedDrive are met and exceeded.
