Volkswagen Crowns Winner of Its Think Blue Fuel Efficiency Challenge

The nation’s most fuel efficient driver to represent Malaysia at the Think Blue. World Championship 2013 in Germany.

MELAKA, 18 August 2013 – Last month, Volkswagen began its search for Malaysia’s most fuel efficient driver through the Think Blue. – National Challenge 2013. Today, this search culminated with the crowning of the most fuel efficient driver.

The title winner, Mr Ong Lin Kern defeated 29 other finalists in the competition, who were all vying to become Malaysia’s most fuel efficient driver since the qualifying round kicked off on 1st July.

His victory was recorded as the highest overall score accumulated based on five tests that made up the Think Blue. – National Challenge 2013. During the fuel efficiency test, the lowest fuel consumption was recorded with 3.7 litres per 100 kilometres of fuel in real time driving competitions with the 1.4 TSI Golf. Close behind are Mr Ong Wu Zhuan and Mr Chew Fun Sing who bagged second and third place respectively.

As the national champion, Ong Lin Kern is set to represent Malaysia on an international driving competition at the Think Blue. World Championship 2013, to be held in Germany from 6th to 10th September 2013.

“I am very delighted to win the challenge. I am even more excited to be representing Malaysia at the Think Blue. World Championship 2013. Competing in Germany is nerve-wrecking but at the same time thrilling. I look forward to represent Malaysia in the global platform and I will certainly do my best in bringing home a trophy,” said Ong Lin Kern.

He further added that the challenge has taught him a great deal about the efficient use of fuel and the impact of driving behaviours on the environment.

Winners from around the world will take part in the world championship by competing against each other in a drive from Wolfsburg to Frankfurt in Germany. The world champion will be determined based on the lowest amount of fuel used to complete the distance.

This year is the first time a Malaysian representative will be participating in the Think Blue. World Championship since it started three years ago.
