BMW Group Malaysia today introduced the new F 700 GS and enhanced F 800 GS enduro Motorrad motorcycles. Designed for a new generation of enduro customers, the all-new F 700 GS is catered for off-road riders while delivering practical all-round capabilities for everyday use. Meanwhile the BMW F 800 GS combines touring capability with a greater level of off-road qualities.

Presenting the new BMW Motorrad models, Dr. Gerhard Pils, Chief Executive Officer of BMW Group Malaysia said, “As the world’s leading premium automaker, BMW has always challenged ourselves; be it in innovation, sustainability or growth. We are confident that these two new motorcycles by BMW Motorrad will deliver incredible riding experiences to customers through the combination of sleek design, dynamism and superior power. Both the F 700 GS and F 800 GS are front runners in their respective classes and we are confident that they will allow BMW Motorrad to set new benchmarks in 2013.”

Dr. Pils added that the addition of the two new BMW Enduros would allow BMW Group Malaysia to further reinforce its position as the country’s number one selling premium automotive company in the country.

“In 2012, BMW Motorrad recorded a 21% growth in its business performance over the previous year, delivering 362 motorcycles. This was a strong contribution to the overall performance of BMW Group Malaysia which saw 2012 as our strongest performing year ever, with a total of 7,021 BMW, MINI and Motorrad vehicles delivered.” said Dr. Pils.

Replacing the previous F 650 GS, BMW Motorrad now introduces the F 700 GS, a motorcycle geared more towards motorcyclists with moderate demands for off-road expertise, but with the need to experience a motorcycle capable for all-round everyday use with a good balance of power and economy. Meanwhile, with the new BMW F 800 GS, BMW Motorrad aimed to combine versatility and robust performance for both road and off-road qualities at a level exceeding typical enduro bikes.

Both models sport a new build structure that includes a redesigned “beak” situated right above the mudguard – a classic BMW GS hallmark which also functions as a splash guard. Newly revised side trims accentuate the individual personalities of the new F 700 GS and F 800 GS with the former displaying a sophisticated urban character while the latter demonstrates a masculine look and feel hinting at its off-road capabilities.

Powering both models are a 798 cc, liquid-cooled 4-valve 2-cylinder engine, electronic fuel injection, closed-loop catalytic converter and a 6-speed gearbox. A key unique feature offered is the additional connecting rod which ensures that the 2-cylinder runs with as minimal vibration as possible. The F 700 GS enjoys a boost in its outputs producing a maximum torque of 77Nm at 5,300rpm, while the F 800 GS pushes out 85hp @ 7,500 rpm and 83 Nm @ 5,750 rpm.

Keeping their considerable speeds in check, BMW Motorrad ABS is provided as a standard feature in both the F 700 GS and the F 800 GS. This new system provides an even lighter and more compact system than the previous generation which further contributes to its overall agility, dynamism and efficiency. The two models also contain valves that can be infinitely adjusted and new wheel sensors that are able to self-monitor and gauge the distance between sensor and sensor wheel, ensuring that the bike is moving in a safe speed by monitoring the rotation of the wheels. Other safety-related innovations within their respective classes such as the ASC (Automatic Stability Control) and ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) are also provided as a standard feature for both models.

Instruments and controls have been similarly made over, with vertically arranged dials ensuring better legibility of read outs. Switchgear is based the latest generation of BMW Motorrad switches which are more compact thanks to MID (Molded Interconnect Design) technology. This revolutionary invention uses printed conductors rather than individual wiring to operate, offering a wider range of functions while providing a much more distinct design with optimum usability.

Some of the functions that encompass the MID technology are the left and right turn indicators which are now infused into a single function on the left-hand side of the handlebars. At the top of the left-hand handlebar panel, a more visible switch is embedded for the hazard warning flashers. For convenient access, the left index finger is integrated with just one switch for the low beam, high beam and headlamp flasher functions.

Steering down to the frame design, both models feature slimmer seat and front structures due to the reduced width of the overall frame and engine. The low centre of gravity helps improve off-road qualities with full manoeuvring control, together with a narrow steering head and wide handlebars which which better suits rough terrain. Riders can browse through a wide range of optional adjustments for the front brake and clutch as well as wide vibration-damping footrests with removal rubber tops to help effect smooth ride and handling.

The new BMW F 700 GS and BMW F 800 GS will be available at all authorised BMW Motorrad dealerships nationwide from Friday, 22nd March 2013. The retail prices (on the road without insurance) are:
