Goodyear launches new EfficientGrip SUV tyres
Modern SUVs no longer live the battle-hardened lives like their forebears, and their requirements have accordingly shifted to incorporate virtues such as quietness and refinement. Recognizing this shift in priorities, Goodyear has rolled out the new EfficientGrip SUV tyre, which the company claims to be its quietest SUV tyre ever.
“People who own SUVs and 4×4 vehicles are mostly driven by the need to feel “in control” and safe when traveling along on-road and off-road surfaces,” said Ivy Peng, Managing Director, Goodyear Malaysia.
“But SUV owners today, who mainly drive in urban settings, know what it takes to truly enjoy their vehicle – the added driving comfort of a sedan in an SUV,” Peng added.
Available for rim diameters measuring 16 to 20 inches, design features of the EfficientGrip SUV tyre that enables it to deliver its promise include its shock-absorbing carcass featuring high steel belt angle that Goodyear claims to allow for greater structural flexibility to absorb vibrations. Complementing it is Goodyear’s QuietTred technology which is said to allow the tyre to maintain decent noise levels even in later stages of wear.
Further contributing to the tyre’s improved quietness is a closed shoulder design that prevents the spread of radial noises, and the tyres higher number of block pitches (increased from 68 to 72) helps to reduce noise harmonics. The rib-type tread design provides a smooth tread geometry entering the tyre’s footprint to further reduce noise levels.
According to internal tests, Goodyear’s engineers measured noticeable improvements in both noise and comfort levels of the new EfficientGrip SUV tyre with respect to its predecessor. The company claims that even in advanced stages of wear, the EfficientGrip SUV remained as quiet as a brand new set of its predecessor tyres.
