New automatic transmission bikes from Boon Siew Honda
Urban bikers seeking for a comfortable and convenient ride are now presented with a couple of new options from Boon Siew Honda. The recently-launched Spacy and PCX motorcycles both feature the convenience of automatic transmission and have been well received in overseas markets in Europe, America, and Asia.
Speaking at the launch of these two models, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Boon Siew Honda, Satoshi Okada said, “In a business dealing with of all kinds of motorbikes, there is always a place for Automatic Transmission models, which are simple to ride and maintain. Today, we are taking this line to a whole new level with the Spacy and PCX, two Automatic Transmission models with exciting new features.”
Powered by a 4-stroke 110cc single-cylinder engine, the Spacy is designed was a lot of thought for spaciousness, with an 18-litre XL-sized utility box able to fit a full-face helmet and a front inner box that can accommodate a 500ml bottle along with other small items. The floor panel has been made larger, and the seat is correspondingly wider for added comfort.
Tested in the ECE40 Mode, the Spacy’s Euro II engine is rated with an official fuel consumption of 41.5km/l, which promises a decent cruising range from its 5.2-litre fuel tank. A special Side Stand Switch, which automatically shuts down the engine when the side stand comes down, further saves fuel on idling. There is also a Brake Lock Lever function, activated by a click, that helps avoid accidental throttle operation when idling.
Meanwhile, the bigger PCX is powered by a 153cc, single-cylinder four-stroke engine with Honda’s Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) system. Equipped with a Smart Power (eSP) system and Idling Stop System, the PCX’s fuel consumption is rated at an impressive 50.2 km/l on the ECE40 Mode test. The Idling Stop System utilizes an ACG starter for smoother starting. The PCX also comes with the Side-Stand Switch like the Spacy.
Stopping in the PCX is provided by what Honda calls the Combined Brake System (CBS), which equalizes braking pressure between the front disc and rear drums for smoother and more effective braking. To deliver better long-distance comfort, the PCX perches its rider on a Wide Seat with Sit-in Riding Position. Storage spaces are provided by a console box and a 25-litre Extra Large U-Box.
The PCX comes in two variants. The Deluxe variant which come in Pearl Metalloid White with the road price of RM10,888.00 and the Standard variant which comes in Pearl Magellanic Black and Radiate Grey Metallic at the road price of RM10,688.00. Meanwhile, the Spacy, which is available in Magellanic Black, Euphoria Red Metallic and Pearl Metalloid White, has an on-the-road price of RM4,999. All prices quoted are inclusive of a 1-year comprehensive single rider insurance and a 2-year / 20,000km warranty.
