Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia has announced that the all-new Mitsubishi Mirage is available for viewing at all authorized Mitsubishi dealerships in Peninsula Malaysia. The Mirage was officially opened for booking on 1 October, and a launch date of 19 November 2012 has been confirmed.

Fuel economy will be a key selling point of the Mirage, with Mitsubishi quoting an official figure of 21 km/l tested on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). The sole engine option to be offered to Malaysians will be a 1.2-litre three-cylinder MIVEC engine with 77hp and 100Nm to propel 850kg of metal about.

The Mirage’s compact size will hugely benefit its maneuverability in tight spaces, with a segment-best turning radius of 4.4m. Steering assist is provided by an electric motor, and there are reverse sensors to further aid judgement when parking.

Three variants are available for selection, and depending on your choice, available features include Bright View instrument cluster, Smart Key with Push Start button, digital automatic air con, a leather wrapped steering wheel and a 2-DIN audio system with USB and AUX jack. Estimated prices start from RM 56,000 for the 1.2 Manual (M/T) to RM 64,000 for the 1.2 CVT on-the-road without insurance in Peninsula Malaysia.

Malaysia will be sourcing its shipments of the Mirage from Thailand, which Mitsubishi has designated as the model’s global manufacturing hub. Besides Malaysia and domestic consumption in the Thai market, Thai-built Mirages will be sold in Japan, Australia, Europe, and ASEAN.

Oh, and don’t worry about any re-badging deals. According to Tetsuya Oda, CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia, “Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) Japan, assured customers that the Mirage will remain solely as a Mitsubishi-badged vehicle in the Malaysian market.”
