New Ssangyong Actyon SUV and Actyon Sports pick-up launched

Competitive Supreme, the local distributor of Ssangyong vehicles, has updated its Actyon family of vehicles with introductions of the new Actyon SUV and Actyon Sports pick-up truck. It should be noted, however, despite their names, these two vehicles are mechanically unrelated – the SUV utilizes a monocoque chassis while the pick-up is based on a ladder frame.

Both vehicles are nevertheless powered by 2.0-litre turbodiesel engines, although they differ in tuning and specifications. With bore and stroke measuring at 86.2mm and 85.6mm respectively, both engines displace 1,998cc and share a 16.5 compression ratio. The SUV naturally gets the more aggressive tune, pushing out 173hp @ 4,000rpm and 360Nm @ 2,000 – 3,000rpm. Meanwhile, the pick-up makes 153hp @ 4,000rpm and 360Nm @ 1,500 – 2,800rpm.

Price-wise, both vehicles are competitive. Our taxation structure benefits pick-up trucks, and this allows the Actyon Sport to come-in at RM88,864.40 with insurance for the 4×2 automatic model and RM93,994.40 for the 4×4 automatic. The Actyon’s RM133,908.40 price tag is steeper, but still good enough to give existing players, even its value-laden compatriots from Korea, a good run for their money.

Both vehicles are equipped with 6-speed automatic transmissions and a host of standard kit to make their asking prices sound like a steal. Certainly, no other pick-up in the market offers a sunroof, and other goodies to boast about in the Actyon Sports (even in its cheaper 4×2 trim) include ABS, EBD, dual airbags, front seat-belt pre-tensioners, electric driver’s seat, leather upholstery, and power folding mirrors.

The Actyon SUV is even more luxuriously equipped, with EBD, ESP, brake assist, rollover protection, hill start assist, dual airbags, reach and rake steering, cruise control, leather trim, and keyless entry amongst many entries in a lengthy spec-sheet.

The Actyon Sports 4×4 model is equipped with an electronic shift-on-the-fly transfer case, and unlike other pick-up trucks, it features coil spring rear suspension combined with double wishbones up front. In contrast, the monocoque body SUV utilizes a more common MacPherson Strut front, and multi-link rear setup with an electronic all-wheel drive system putting power to the road.

Both the Actyon and Actyon Sports are open for bookings, and they come with a factory-backed 3-year / 100,000km warranty.
