Boon Siew Honda has introduced two new performance bikes for Malaysian riders – the CBR1000RR Super Sports bike, and the CRF250L dual-purpose adventure bike. Both bikes cater for a different profile of users, with the CRF250L adept on street and dirt terrain, whilst the CBR1000RR being a track-ready road-going machine.

The CBR1000RR is powered by a 999cc liquid-cooled four-cylinder four-stroker with twin camshafts and Programmed Dual Sequential Fuel Injection (PGM-DSFI). Quoted outputs are 176hp @ 12,000rpm and 112Nm @ 8,500rpm. Built within compact dimensions, the CBR1000RR is underpinned by a four-piece aluminium frame for better handling and power-to-weight ratio.

Its suspension architecture employs technology developed by Showa, with big piston front forks and balance free rear cushion with double tube design. The steering system features the new second generation Honda Electronic Steering Damper for better high-speed stability and low-speed responsiveness.

Riding telemetry is displayed by a multi-function LCD panel with gear indicator, coolant temperature, speedometer, and a customizable tachometer with four modes – Conventional, Reversed, Peak Hold, and Single Segment. A 5-level shift LED indicator displays preset rpms when reached to aid maximising of performance and optimum gear shifting.

The CBR1000RR is available at nett selling prices of RM95,900 and RM96,500 depending on colour selection. A more expensive CBR1000RR C-ABS variant adds Honda’s electronic Combined Anti-Lock Braking System is available from RM107,000 to RM107,600, once again dependent on colour.

Riders with a more rugged disposition can consider the new CRF250L, which is equipped with a semi-double cradle steel frame chassis for the added strength and toughness required for off-road duty. Honda claims that the machine is able to maintain excellent levels of stability even with two adults and a 5kg load attached.

Power is supplied by a 250cc liquid cooled twin-cam single-cylinder four-stroke engine ignied by an iridium spark plug and fed by Honda’s Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) system. This 23hp/22Nm motor is cooled by a 10.7kw heat-release radiator. An oxygen lambda sensor and a secondary air injection system in the engine work hand-in-hand to keep carbon emissions low and enable this bike to achieve compliance to Euro III emission regulations. The engine is paired to a new six-speed gearbox and clutch designed to cope with the added stress introduced by the heavy demands of riding off-road.

The CRF250L’s 21″ front wheel has turning angles of 45 degrees either side, and its braced handlebar helps provide and upright and relaxed riding posture whilst offering plenty of leverage. At the rear, a Pro-Link rear suspension with Showa shock absorbers holds the 18″ rear wheel in place. This setup, Honda claims, gives the CRF250L added stability on rough terrain.

The Honda CRF250L comes in Extreme Red at the nett selling price of RM22,688.00 and will be available at the end of August.
