Chevrolet Captiva now with diesel variant

by -

Chevrolet has recently restored the option of a diesel engine with its Captiva SUV with an addition of two new variants to the line-up. Launched with the option of a 2.4 petrol and 2.0 diesel engine in 2007, the Captiva had to make do with only one 2.4 petrol variant since the facelifted model was introduced in August 2011. Incidentally, this petrol variant won Best SUV/Crossover in our Shell V-Power Autoworld Car of the Year 2011 Awards.

“The Captiva is already a versatile and luxurious offering with performance and advanced technologies in one. With the addition of the more powerful and frugal turbo-diesel power-trains, it definitely raises the bar once again for SUVs in its class,” said Datuk Wira SM Faisal Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin, Naza Group of Companies Joint Group Executive Chairman.

It is worth noting that despite similar capacities, the Captiva facelift offers all-new engines for both the petrol and diesel variants. A new 1,998cc twin-cam unit now powers the 2.0 VCDi LT and 2.0 VCDi LTZ variants in place of the previous single-cam mill that displaced 1,991cc. There is a significant increase in its vital stats to report – 148hp jumps to 164hp @ 3,800rpm, and torque is raised from 320Nm to 360Nm @ 2,750rpm. Drive goes to all fours via a 6-speed slush box.

The two variants are priced at RM3,000 apart from each other, and that difference is used to pay for 19″ alloys (vs 18″ for the LT models), electrochromic rear-view mirror, and perforated leather to line the interior. Standard features for both models include an electronic parking brake, steering-mounted buttons, Hill Start Assist, and Hill Descent Control.

Safety equipment to note will be dual frontal and curtain airbags, vented disc brakes all-round, ABS, EBD, traction control, stability control, anti-rollover, and self-leveling suspension, all standard.
