All-new Porsche Boxster launched in Malaysia
In conjunction with the Porsche Motorsport Week 2012, Sime Darby Auto Performance has launched the all-new Porsche Boxster together with the new Panamera GTS variant. At the Porsche Motorsport Week, held in Sepang International Circuit, Porsche customers had the opportunity to try various Porsche models on slalom, moose, and skid-pad courses before going to the track.
Now in the third generation of its model cycle, the Boxster launches in Malaysia with the option of two variants – Boxster and Boxster S. Its chassis is said to be all-new, boasting less weight, longer wheelbase, wider tracks and larger wheels to enhance overall driving dynamics. Porsche also claims that in addition to better performance, the new models boast 15% improvements in fuel efficiency over the equivalent variants of its predecessor.
Both versions of the Boxster are powered by direct-injected six-pot boxers sitting amidships. The engines displace 2.7 litres in the base model and 3.4 litres in the Boxster S, and as far as Malaysia is concerned, both are equipped with Porsche’s 7-speed PDK dual clutch gearbox as standard. Outputs of the engines are rated at 265hp for the Boxster and 315hp for the Boxster S.
Customers can opt to equip their Boxsters with an optional Sport Chrono Package, and with this in place, the standard model is capable of hitting the century sprint in 5.5 seconds; the Boxster S will do 4.8 seconds. Official fuel consumption is rated at 7.7 l/100km for the Boxster and 8.0 l/100km for the Boxster S.
Moving on to the Panamera, the family is now bolstered by the new GTS variant, which features more power, upgraded brakes, and a body lowered by 10mm. Its chassis features adaptive air suspension, and Porsche claims it is track competent without sacrificing practicality. The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system regulates leveling, ride height, spring rates, and damping based on driving conditions. Rear track has been widened by 5mm wheel spacers on each side for better stability.
Driving it is a 4.8-litre V8 engine from the Panamera S, but injected with a boost of 30hp and 20Nm. Figures from the dyno read 430hp @ 6,700rpm and 520Nm @ 3,500rpm. No prizes for guessing what’s the transmission on offer (7-speed PDK), and the numbers to brag are 4.5 seconds to 100 clicks and 288kph flat out. Fuel consumption measured in the NEDC cycle, assuming it matters to you, is 10.9 l/100km. The car’s all-wheel drive too, by the way.
The all-new Boxster and Boxster S are priced at RM450,000 and RM550,000 respectively. The Panamera GTS, meanwhile, is priced higher at RM1,050,000, putting it right in between the Panamera Hybrid and Panamera Turbo. Prices include excise duties, full factory warranties and free service packages for four years, but exclude on-road costs.
