GRA kicks off 2012 season this weekend at Shah Alam
Grass Racing Autosports, or more commonly known as GRA, will kick start its seventh successive season this weekend with the first round scheduled to take place at the Shah Alam Stadium car park on Sunday, 6 May 2012. Event organizer Ian Khong hinted at a more exciting calendar this year, with new sponsors and drivers joining existing long-timers of the series.
For 2012, the series welcomes the arrival of new sponsor Maxxis Tyres joining Red Line Oil, Vanli Genuine Parts, Meguiar’s, PG Perma Glass, Gophers GPS, and drivingMotion.com as partners of the event. As usual, each of these partners will be fielding their own team of drivers to grace the pack.
Biggest will be Team Red Line, comprising of Ivan Khong, Christopher Chong, Ee Yoong Cherng, Ray Leong, and Kazuto Soon. Team manager Mr Howard Goh said, “We have been the longest standing partner of GRA, and we have seen the level of racing in a this region pick up so rapidly that our Red Line Oil is synonymous with autocrossing, gymkhana and drifting.”
From Vanli Genuine Parts, Mr. C.K.Lim explained that, “It is our core fundamental that we deliver the best parts needed for the community and GRA has been able to elevate our presence in the motorsports scene which is very dynamic for us as a company.”
Returning back to GRA again for its fourth installment is Meguiar’s which is led Mr. Johan Wong, Head of Operations. He said, “Being community based is what GRA is all about, which we love most about it.”
Meanwhile debuting sponsor Maxxis Tyres will be having an ace up their sleeve in the form of Andy Kow, Champion of the 2008 and 2009 series. Mr. Tan Weng Chuan, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer of Maxxis Tyres said, “Our goal is to showcase Maxxis tyres to the motorsports enthusiasts that want the added performance in motorsports.”
Round 1 of GRA 2012 takes place this Sunday at Stadium Shah Alam from 9am to 5pm. Spectator entrance is free, and there will also be a parade of GRA’s bevy of race queens at 12 noon.
