Ford Motor Company and Mazda Motor Corporation have recently announced an additional investment of US$27 million in their AutoAlliance Thailand (AAT) joint venture plant at Rayong to increase its annual pick-up truck capacity by 20,000 units.

The pick-up truck lines in AAT is responsible for making the all-new Ford Ranger T6 and its soon-to-arrive platform-mate, the Mazda BT-50. The new investment, which adds additional robots and tools to increase line speed and output, will come online in May, bringing the plant’s annual pick-up truck capacity to 195,000 units; 295,000 if we include numbers from the passenger car line which makes the Mazda2, Mazda3, and Ford Fiesta. The Ford Everest also rolls out of AAT.

This latest investment increases Ford and Mazda’s total joint investment in the AAT facility to nearly US$2 billion since operations began in 1995. Last year, Ford and Mazda jointly-invested US$350 million to support facility upgrades and supplier tooling for production of the Ranger and BT-50. For Ford, this comes on top of a wholly-owned all-new US$450 million plant situated nearby, which will start work in the next couple of days making the new Ford Focus.
