Super GT 2012 Round 3 at Sepang – Latest Announcements

by -

The Super GT 2012 Round 3 marks the second year that JPM Motorsport is organizing the hugely popular race series’ only round to take place outside Japan. Set to host more than 40 teams from manufacturers and private owners, the 2012 iteration of this landmark motorsport event will take place on 9 and 10 June.

Widely followed by enthusiasts, Super GT prides itself by being a fan-friendly sport. Unlike, say, Formula 1, fans of Super GT have amazing opportunities to get close to the teams, and it is almost impossible to have runaway winners in a season. If you’ve won the previous race, you race the coming round strapped down by weight ballasts.

There are two classes that compete in Super GT – GT500 and GT300. GT500 features factory-backed racers from Honda, Lexus and Nissan, whilst GT300 has a more varied grid with Subaru, Nissan, Toyota, Honda, Audi, Aston Martin, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche amongst competing manufacturers.

JPM’s maiden effort in organizing Super GT last year garnered plenty of praise, and it many of last year’s activities will once again be featured and lined up alongside newer activities:
– All transactions will be conducted by Touch ‘n Go. There will be 15 reload counters placed throughout Sepang Circuit for the convenience of visitors.
– Super GT Queen Search 2012 – finals will be held on race day.
– Cultural shows, dances, drum shows, and fusion performances.
– Autosalon featuring various tuned and enhanced vehicles.
– Motor show twice as large as previously attempted, with participation from Honda, Sime Darby Motor, Naza World, UMW Toyota Motor, Mazda, and private collectors. Parts makers such as Motul and Yokohama will be present as well.
– Akiba Town – an outdoor, Japanese-styled, lifestyle bazaar.
– BMX Challenge
– An attempt to break the Biggest Supercar and Performance Car Gathering in Malaysia record set during last year’s event.
– Regional finals of the Gran Turismo 5 Asia Online Tournament 2012.

JPM expects a crowd of 50,000 attendees a day, and collaborations are already in place with Sky Bus and Sunlight Taxi to cater for increased public transport needs. Sky Bus will provide transit services to Sepang International Circuit from KL Sentral.

More activities will be announced in due course, but the ticket price is unchanged from last year’s RM100. Children enter free.
