Making of the Proton P3-21A: More pieces fall in place

by -

More pieces are being added to the Proton P3-21A shell being displayed at the Power of 1 mega event going on at Bukit Jalil. For day three, the engineers have decided to add body panels into the puzzle, presenting us with its bootlid, driver’s door and front fender.

As pointed out in our opening day coverage, the P3 will feature a prominent shoulder crease running along its doors. This picture shows where the line starts on the front fender. The door handles are flush with the shoulder line, a considerable engineering expense.

Confirmation that the P3-21A will have side airbags – first timeĀ  in a Proton.

The bootlid was added today, and from this two observations were gleaned.

It is opened by a good old-fashioned key hole.

It is supported by gooseneck hinges like the Waja – cheaper, but less space efficient than the gas struts offered in the Persona.
