Ferrari F12berlinetta – 599’s successor debuts in Geneva
Ferrari has revealed the all-new F12berlinetta, its new two-seater V12 grand tourer, at the Geneva Motor Show. The spellcheckers amongst you will notice that we’ve spelled its name as ‘F12berlinetta’ and not ‘F12 Berlinetta’. We can assure you that is the company’s official designation for the model and not a typo.
Displayed at Geneva in two new colours, Rosso Berlinetta and Aluminium, the F12 is Ferrari’s official replacement of the 599 GTB Fiorano in a long line of V12-powered tourers that included the legends like the 250, 275, and Daytona in its heritage.
No turbocharged power here. Ferrari is sticking to natural aspiration for the 6,262cc direct-injected twelve-cylinder motor sitting up front. Quoted outputs from Ferrari indicate 730hp @ 8,250rpm. Although peak torque of 690Nm is served at a heady 6,000rpm, Ferrari claims that 80% of that twist is available from as low as 2,500rpm.
Fuel economy and emissions may not be at the forefront of a Ferrari owner’s considerations, but when legislation breathes down your neck, these figures become important. For the record, the F12’s official fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emission figures stand at 15 l/100km and 350 g/km respectively in the EU driving cycle. Figures that would excite the petrol head read 340kph top speed, 3.1 seconds to 100kph, and 8.5 seconds to 200kph.
A host of technology is packed into the F12, starting with the rear-mounted 7-speed dual clutch gearbox going on to various electronic control systems such as E-diff, ESC, F1-Trac, and high-performance ABS. Stopping power is provided by carbon-ceramic brakes (CCM3), and the suspension features variable damping control (SCM-E).
