Super GT confirmed again for Sepang – June 2012

Buoyed by the successful organization of the third round of Super GT’s 2011 season, JP Performance Motorsports is gearing up to bring more of the same for the 2012 season, with action of the third round once again taking place at our very own Sepang International Circuit (SIC) on 9 & 10 June.

Last year’s iteration was noted for its plethora of activities that included not only various races, but also parties, concerts, as well as various carnivals, fun and games for the family. More of the same is promised this year. A total of 60,000 visitors attended last year’s race, and the target this year is to draw a larger crowd.

“There will be more racing, more fun, more family friendly activities, more entertainment for youngsters and more features of GT Queens as our mission is not only to bring the Super GT race to Malaysian Super GT fans, but also to make the whole event fit and affordable for a family outing,” said Mr JP Chin, Founder of JPM.

Off track activities this year include the Japanese Akihabara Town displaying various gadgets, food festivals, mini auto saloons, numerous automotive peripherals, live performances of various artistes, and rave parties.

“The motorsports industry isn’t a venture in terms of profit making; it’s a venture for the interest of the people. However, we also see this event as a place of exposure especially for the sponsors,” Chin further added. Indeed, JPM welcomes sponsorship from any interested. corporations.

Recently, on 23 to 27 January, the Super GT teams had already flown in to test their vehicles in a closed session held at the SIC. Teams present included Nissan, Toyota, and Honda from the GT500 category, and Hankook Porsche of the GT300 category. Malaysia is a preferred ground for pre-season testing, as our tropical climate makes for excellent durability testing.
