New Range Rover Evoque – Latest Excitement For Malaysian motorists

by -

The new range Rover Evoque is the latest bit of excitement for Malaysian SUV lovers. Not only is it good looking, the Evoque is competitively priced. Available with either petrol or diesel power, it will certainly be an interesting alternative for those who are considering mid-sized premium sedans such as the likes of a BMW 5 Series or a Mercedes E Class.

Pre-orders are as high as 250 units, a number hitherto unheard of in local Range Rover launches. The Evoque is based on the Freelander 2 platform, and the 2.0 litre power train has been boosted to give more power. Likewise, the diesel engine has enough horses to make it just as exciting to drive.

We are just as excited here in AW, and are looking forward to a test drive real soon. Meanwhile, we publish the release from Land Rover Malaysia:-

Petaling Jaya, November 2, 2011 – Land Rover (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd today officially launched the exciting all-new Range Rover Evoque for the Malaysian market.

The smallest, lightest, most fuel efficient Range Rover ever produced, the completely built-up (CBU) Evoque will be available in three variants at the following on-the-road prices (excluding insurance):
• 2.0L Petrol Coupe Dynamic Plus – RM393,888 (Peninsular Malaysia), RM397,388 (Sabah and Sarawak)
• 2.0L Petrol 5-Door Prestige – RM363,888 (Peninsular Malaysia), RM367,388 (Sabah and Sarawak)
• 2.2L Diesel 5-Door Prestige – RM353,888 (Peninsular Malaysia), RM357,388 (Sabah and Sarawak).

The 2.0L Petrol Coupe specified with the sporty Dynamic Plus design theme and the 2.0L Petrol 5-Door in luxurious Prestige theme are powered by a state-of-the-art new 240PS Si4 petrol engine that combines direct fuel injection, turbocharging and twin variable valve timing for exceptional driveability and fuel efficiency. The 2.2L Diesel 5-Door featuring the luxurious Prestige is powered by the proven 190Ps SD4 turbodiesel engine currently found in the Land Rover Freelander 2.

Both the petrol and diesel engines are matched to the latest generation AW F-21 6-speed automatic transmission with a Rotary Auto Shifter.

According to Land Rover Malaysia managing director Mohd Hazem Abdul Rahman, the Evoque is one of the most important and exciting vehicles in a generation from Land Rover.

“With its cutting edge lines and sporty, dynamic profile, the Evoque is a game-changer for the Range Rover brand. It defines a completely new segment in the SUV market and is set to change mindsets. In the Evoque, we have for the first time, a breakthrough product that should appeal to those who have never considered a Land Rover, Range Rover or SUV before,” he said.

Although the Evoque has successfully turned the acclaimed LRX concept into reality by making a quantum leap in Range Rover design, both the coupe and 5-Door models remain true to the brand’s core values of premium luxury and formidable all-terrain performance and combine them with dynamic and sporty handling.

Hazem added, “The Evoque really does give you the best of everything – stunning concept car looks combined with day-to-day comfort and practicality and unmatched 4X4 capabilities. The market seems to agree as we have already secured more than 250 pre-bookings even before this official launch.”

Range Rover Evoque customers have a choice of petrol or diesel powerplants. Petrol models feature the new downsized 240PS 2.0-litre Si4 engine. This state-of-the-art petrol engine offers smooth and responsive power, delivering 0-100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, blending four-cylinder efficiency with six-cylinder performance.

The latest powertrain technologies – including advanced turbocharging, high-pressure direct fuel-injection and twin variable valve timing – are combined to provide outstanding driveability, with very strong bottom-end performance and an extremely broad, torquey power band.

The Si4’s highly efficient combustion system enables it to achieve significant reductions in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The compact all-aluminium four-cylinder engine is also substantially lighter than conventional engines with a similar output.

The diesel Evoque model for Malaysia features the latest 190Ps 2.2-litre turbodiesel which delivers an excellent balance of strong, high-torque performance, impressive refinement and outstanding fuel economy. The engine has been comprehensively updated to provide significantly more power, a very broad torque curve, further reduced noise levels and lower CO2 emissions.

To complement the car’s responsive on-road handling, the Evoque features a full suite of traction and stability systems that includes Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Roll Stability Control (RSC), Traction Control System (TCS), Trailer Stability Assist (TSA), Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control (HDC), Gradient Release Control (GRC) and Engine Drag torque Control (EDC).
