World gets first look of Ducati Monster 795 in Malaysia
Ducati enthusiasts in Malaysia had the rare privilege of being among the first in the world to glimpse the new Monster 795 motorcycle that was unveiled at Kuala Lumpur recently. It is a model that supposedly combines the user-friendly character of the 696 with the sporting intent of the 796, both also members of the Monster family.
This latest model affirms Ducati’s focus towards the Asian markets. Mirko Bordiga, CEO Ducati Asia Pacific, said, “Monster has been the Ducati model sold in the highest numbers all over the world: it is an icon and represents an important part of Ducati’s history. The new Monster 795 has been thought and developed specifically for the Asian markets and for the growing group of Ducatisti in this area.”
Sitting between the driver’s legs is the Desmodue 796 motor producing 87hp @ 8,250rpm and 78Nm @ 6,250rpm. A stroke up of the 696 engine, the 803cc L-twin engine utilizes lightened crankcases to save 1.2kg of mass over the 696’s smaller motor. The crankshaft has a lightweight 848-type flywheel. Service interval for the engine is 12,000km.
The Monster’s chassis is based on the sturdy Trellis frame, which is claimed by Ducati to combine lightweight with incredible torsional stiffness. The cast aluminium frame features large diameter tube construction and is joined with a matte black rear swingarm to hold the back wheel. Together with aforementioned weight savings from the engine, the 795 tips the scales with a dry weight of 167kg.
Braking is provided by a pair of 320mm semi-floating discs with 4-piston Brembo callipers up front aided by a single 245mm disc and 2-piston Brembo calliper. The 17″ three-spoke alloys are produced in lightweight aluminium, and they roll on 120/60 and 160/60 Pirelli Angel ST tyres.
Asian customer feedback was given great consideration in designing the 795, and catering to their needs, Ducati engineers lowered the 796’s position by a full 30mm from the 795. The handlebars in turn were raised by 20mm for improved posture and comfort.
The new Monster 795 comes in traditional Ducati red, with a red Trellis frame and black wheels. Monster art extends the standard red colour to 11 with the new collection, Logomania.
