Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 wins Auto Express tyre test
Leading UK publication Auto Express put ten tyres to the test at its recent Auto Express Big Tyre Test 2011 held at Bridgestone’s test facility in Aprilia, Rome. The results of the test ranked Goodyear’s new Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 tyre as number one among the test tyres. It was also named ‘Best Buy 2011′ by the publication.
For the test, Auto Express took ten sample tyres for each of the selected tyres. The tyres were fitted to a Volkswagen Golf GTI where they were tested on qualities such as wet and dry braking, handling and cornering, straight and curved aquaplaning, rolling resistance and noise. In addition to the ten supplied tyres from their respective manufacturers, Auto Express even took the further step and bought a further two sets at random for each tyre for comparison.
From the Auto Express test results, the Asymmetric 2 is said to have ranked highly in majority of areas, in particular wet and dry braking, with the latter a particular surprise to the Auto Express testers. It was already anticipated the Goodyear would excel in the wet, but its excellent dry performance took the testers by surprise.
Firdaus Asri, member of the VAGMY (Volkswagen AG Malaysia) car club said that “The Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 provides easy handling and offers the driver a good grip, suitable for all weather conditions. It performs reasonably well on a rear wheel drive and provides good overall steering feel. One of my criteria’s when selecting a tire is its featured performance and the grip. I’m happy to say that the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 has met all my needs and is definitely a good ultra high performance tire I would support.”
