Toyota Vios receives updates for 2011

The nation’s best selling non-national car, the Toyota Vios, has just received a minor update to maintain its competitiveness as the model enters the home stretch of its model cycle. A new variant, the 1.5G Limited, has been added to the mix, sitting between the 1.5G and TRD Sportivo versions.

Commenting on the Vios’ standing in Malaysia, En Ismet Suki, President of UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd, said, “Since its first introduction, almost 200,000 units of the Toyota Vios were sold in Malaysia. In 2010, the Toyota Vios recorded a 15% increase to 33,700 units, compared to 2009.”

The new 1.5G Limited variant, is not as its moniker suggests limited in numbers, but just an enhancement of the 1.5G model with a newly-designed aerokit, new front grille, and dark silver coloured 15″ alloy rims. The 1.5G will also be sold with the same rims from now on. Inside, the 1.5G Limited is finished in beige leather upholstery and chrome highlights.

Meanwhile, the range-topping Vios TRD Sportivo has received a minor nose job, with a new chrome-surrounded honeycomb mesh plastered on its front grille. It continues to wear the same 15″ alloy rims, but painted bronze instead of the previous dark silver. Inside the TRD variant is clad in black combination leather with red stitching. There is also the customary sprinkling of TRD Sportivo badges all over the cabin that you paid RM92,000 for this Vios.

For the rest of the range, UMW Toyota has introduced a new colour, Deep Amethyst Mica Metallic to replace Grey Mica Metallic. Other options in the colour palette are Silver Metallic, Coal Black, White, and Medium Silver Metallic. Moving down the hierarchy, the 1.5E is now finished with a dark grey / blue two-tone fabric interior.

Customers who wish for a sportier ride have the option of specifying their cars with the TRD Sportivo suspension kit, which brings springs and shocks with reworked spring and damper rates. The kit also lowers vehicle ride height by 10mm. This option is available in all variants.

The Vios may not be the best option in its market segment on pure merit, but it is a top seller for good reason – after sales. UMWT prescribes a 10,000km service schedule for the Vios, which can be undertaken by a network that boasts 62 authorised Toyota service centres nationwide. As per all other Toyota models, the Vios is sold with a 3-year / 100,000km warranty.

Customers looking to check out the new Vios can do so from 1 July 2011 in Peninsula Malaysia, and from 15 July 2011 in East Malaysia. Prices of the new Vios in Peninsula Malaysia, on-the-road with insurance, are:
1.5J M/T: RM71,990
1.5J A/T: RM76,090
1.5E: RM81,500
