Expanded Toyota parts warehouse opens in Sg Buloh
UMW Toyota Motor officially opened its newly-expanded Parts Distribution Centre warehouse in Sg Buloh yesterday. Expansion of the warehouse, a RM30 million investment by UMWT, was made in response to increasing demand for Toyota Genuine Parts and Motor Oil.
According to En. Ismet Suki, President of UMWT, the additional storage space made available by the expansion will enable the company to keep a lengthier inventory and shorten the delivery time of parts to Toyota service outlets and parts dealers.
Storage of parts in the facility is managed by Toyota’s efficient 7-storage techniques, with an electronic Bar Code System (TBIPS) for more effective cataloging of parts. It also uses the Toyota Parts Automated System (TOPAS) software, an advanced system used in Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) for parts ordering, receiving, invoicing, and inventory control.
Commenting on parts sales, En. Ismet said, “UMW Toyota Motor’s parts business recorded RM456 million in 2010, a 16 percent increase from the previous year. Although Toyota’s production was disrupted by the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami in March, we are pleased that the parts supply from Japan has improved earlier than expected and we are confident to reach our parts sales target of nearly RM500 million this year.”
Looking forward, UMWT plans to integrate its existing TOPAS system to the Global Toyota Parts Supply System (G-TOPAS) by 2015. This gives UMWT direct access to the global Toyota parts supply system, ensuring smoother and more effective sourcing and distribution.
