Jaguar C-X75 concept to become reality
At last year’s Paris Motor Show, we saw Jaguar lift the sheets off its stunning C-X75 concept. Now, less than a year later, the company has announced a partnership with Williams F1 team in a project to bring the car from the stands to the roads by 2013.
Jaguar claims that the C-X75 will feature ‘direct technology transfer from top level motorsport’, and Kinetic Energy Regeneration System (KERS) is amongst goodies that will trickle over from Formula 1. Another familiar item to motorsports fans would be its carbon-fibre chassis construction.
Conceived as a celebration of Jaguar’s 75 years in the business (hence the number in its moniker), the C-X75 will become Jaguar’s most advanced model to date. It will be powered highly hybrid powertrain, which marries a heavily boosted small petrol engine to a pair of electric motors – one mounted on each axle.
Like its stunning bodyshell, the C-X75’s promised figures are just as exciting. Top speed will exceed 320kph, and from a standstill, 100kph is reachable before you can count to three and 160kph in below six seconds. That’s stupendous performance, and it can be yours with a clear conscience, thanks to a barely believable 99g/km CO2 emission.
Currently, Targa and Coupe versions of the C-X75 are planned, but production will be limited to 250 units. Prices north of £700,000 are being mooted. Let’s hope the pound remains at its current low by the time the C-X75 comes about.
