BMW Malaysia introduces K 1600 GT & K 1600 GTL motorcycles
BMW Group Malaysia today expanded its line-up of Motorrad motorcycles with the introduction of the K 1600 GT and K 1600 GTL tourers. Like most of its passenger car stablemates, the K 1600 GT series bikes are powered by an inline-6 engine, one designed to be the lightest and narrowest 6-cylinder engine ever produced.
Displacing 1,649cc and weighing in at only 102.6kg, the K 1600 GT and GTL’s engine delivers 160hp @ 7,750rpm and 175Nm @ 5,250rpm. From 1,500rpm onwards, the engine is already producing 70% of its maximum torque. At a constant 90kph cruise, BMW claims the bike will consume 4.5 litres of fuel per 100km traveled. At the flick of a button, the rider can choose between three engine settings – “Rain”, “Road” and “Dynamic”.
Other electronics at the rider’s command include the Electronic Suspension Adjustment II (ESA II) system, Adaptive Headlights and a TFT colour display. The ESA II system, unique to BMW Motorrad, allows the rider to adjust various parameters such as rebound, damping and spring rest for the front and rear wheels. Adaptive headlights balances the headlamp beam illumination of the road when cornering.
The instrument binnacle has the speedometer and tachometer forming two circular displays, and embedded in them is a 5.7″ TFT colour screen, linked to the BMW Motorrad Navigator IV GPS system for bikes so equipped. The various functions of the motorcycle can be operated from a Multi-Controller situated on the inner side of the left handlebar grip.
Speaking at the motorcycles’ launch earlier today, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia Mr Geoffrey Briscoe said, “In 2010, BMW Group Malaysia had a record breaking year with our BMW Motorrad division, delivering a total of 281 motorcycles. As of the first quarter of this year, we have already sold a total of 74 BMW motorcycles and we are on track to setting another record year for BMW Motorrad here in Malaysia.”
Retail prices (on the road including personal road tax registration excluding insurance) for the BMW K 1600 GT and BMW K 1600 GTL are as follows;
– K 1600 GT: RM 158,000
– K 1600 GTL: RM 168,000
