Continental has officially a new tyre plant in Hefei, Anhui province. With an investment of more than €185 million poured in, the new four million tyre-a-year plant is Continental’s first ever in China, and will create 200 new jobs in Hefei.

“Asia is one of our key growth markets. This investment is another major step into this direction, with which we are significantly enhancing our position in the automotive industry in China and in the Asia Pacific region,” said Dr. Elmar Degenhart, CEO of the Continental Corporation.

The plant will cater to Continental’s Asia Pacific markets, and is armed state-of-the-art facilities that allow it to cater to medium and high-end passenger car tyres. Tyres slated for production in the plant include the CPC2 and CC5, both tailored for the Chinese market. Future plans for the plant will see its capacity grown to 16 million tyres per annum.
