BMW Group Malaysia recently hosted Wheel2Wheel, an independent non-profit entity comprising of philanthropists Morgan Parker and Alan Ng traversing 20,000km across Asia Pacific with their BMW F800GS motorcycles in a bid to raise awareness and funds for various charities throughout the region.

The duo’s Malaysian leg stretches some 1,200km of highway and trunk roads. After arriving from Thailand, the duo embarked on a four-day tour of the country before stopping over at Auto Bavaria’s BMW dealership in Glenmarie, where they met up with members of the Malaysian BMW Motorrad Owners Club, who rode with them to Genting Highlands via Batu Caves and the Ulu Yam Lake.

Sharing his experience throughout his journey, Parker noted that the duo have made many friends along their noble journey, highlighting the rugged presence and spirit of the BMW Motorcycles and their owners who share a common camaderie of the open road and adventure.

“There’s just something about BMW Motorrad owners, their motorcycles and the spirit of adventure. Throughout my journey, I had the privilege of riding along side a few BMW Motorrad owners as they too journeyed across the terrain. These are the best bikes in the world to endure challenging terrain, crossing mountains and rivers as well as conquering muddy trails and dirt roads” said Parker.

Mr. Fazli Shukor, Motorrad Manager, BMW Group Malaysia, meanwhile, said, “We at BMW Group Malaysia are proud to be associated with the altruistic efforts of these philanthropic champions who are real bikers at heart. We are also especially pleased to see that the local BMW Motorrad community is also taking up this opportunity to raise awareness on Wheel2Wheel’s efforts throughout the journey.”

Since 1 March 2011, Parker and Ng have taken their F800GS from Hong Kong to China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand before passing through Malaysia. Next stops on their agenda would be Indonesia and Timor Leste before the journey’s conclusion at Brisbane, Australia.

All footage of their voyage will be compiled into a special Wheel2wheel 10-part television series and broadcast throughout the Asia Pacific region on the National Geographic Channel in the second half of 2011.

  1. Having fun whilst helping a charity; everybody wins in the end. But what a journey that will be, a long ride on a motorbike. Sure would love to do that one day.
