Ford chassis guru named ‘Dynamicist of the Year’
If you have any doubts of the dynamic competence of the next generation Ford Focus, this piece of news might serve to re-assure you. The man responsible for developing its platform, Jürgen Pützschler, has just been named “Dynamicist of the Year” by Vehicle Dynamics International magazine.
Jürgen Pützschler with the all-new Ford Focus.
Pützschler, Ford supervisor of medium car vehicle dynamics, was chosen from a three-person shortlist by an international panel of judges for his work on Ford’s new global C platform that also underpins the new Ford C-Max.
Pützschler’s handiwork on the Focus platform.
“Ford’s new medium, or C-car, platform is its most versatile yet: a range of family cars, MPVs, SUVs, electric vehicles and performance cars will all derive from it, for worldwide markets and with a remarkable degree of commonality between them. It can be a thankless task to serve so many masters, but on the evidence of the Focus and C-Max, Jürgen has done a remarkable job,” said Graham Heeps, editor, Vehicle Dynamics International and member of the judging panel.
Highlighting the safety-related element of his work, Pützschler noted that, “Vehicle dynamics development is not about helping lunatic drivers to go even faster through corners, it’s about ensuring predictable, safe and confident driving – even for a novice – when performing extreme accident avoidance manoeuvres.”
We are now eagerly looking forward to testing the next generation Focus already. It’s not often you get to try a car tuned by a ‘Dynamicist of the Year’.
