Perodua assesses longer term impact of Japan quake
Impact of the 11 March quake in Japan continues to resonate worldwide. The country’s role as an industry and financial powerhouse means that any calamity affecting it is bound to have adverse implications even on the other side of the globe.
Perodua today released a statement by its Managing Director, Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh, acknowledging the quake’s impact on its operations in Rawang. Although inventories remain sufficient to continue production in the short term, the company is monitoring the situation closely and has promised periodic updates of the situation.
Datuk Aminar’s statement reads as follows:
Our operations are affected by this calamity and we are currently assessing the situation to understand better the impact on our operations.
Based on the latest information, the inventories at Perodua’s plant and our vendors are sufficient till May production with some adjustments.
We are in direct and continued communications with our partner in Japan, Daihatsu Motor Co Ltd, as well as our local vendors to have a better and clearer picture of the problems and appropriate countermeasures to be taken.
Concurrently we will update our staff, vendors, dealers and other stakeholders as the situation and problem become clearer.
We foresee this problem as a temporary setback and we appreciate the patience and understanding of all parties especially our customers.
