Petaling Jaya, 1 November 2010 – Prima Merdu Sdn Bhd, as the exclusive importer of Mazda vehicles in Malaysia, and Bermaz Motor Sdn Bhd, the exclusive distributor for Mazda in Malaysia, today unveiled the new Mazda5, a compact 7-seater MPV at the Sunway Pyramid shopping centre in Petaling Jaya.

Priced at RM150,000 (on-the-road price without insurance), the Mazda5 further extends the current range of Mazda vehicles – currently available is the Mazda2, Mazda3, Miata, RX-8, CX-7, CX-9,and Mazda8. As a record of sorts, this makes the Mazda range available in Malaysia one of the most complete amongst all Mazda distributors in the world.

The Mazda5 carries the current Mazda DNA of a huge smiling front face, and has a flexible seating arrangement that can be used to carry up to seven occupants, or be adapted easily into a versatile multi-activity vehicle for people with active lifestyles. Access to the second and third rows is through powered sliding doors, one on each side of the vehicle behind the driver and front passenger doors, while a huge rear tailgate opens for access to the rear storage area. The rearmost seats fold down for additional luggage storage space and a 5-seater arrangement. Alternatively, the rearmost seats can be split in the middle to render a 6-seater arrangement. Similarly, the middle row seats can be folded down – the possible combinations are many, to suit individual requirements.

The Mazda5 incorporates Mazda’s Nagare design language – Mazda’s own concept based on the flow of wind and water, to produce an intuitive sense of motion with flowing lines that are designed to be eye-catching and appealing. The Mazda5 also carries Mazda’s Zoom-Zoom philosophy of delivering the unique Mazda driving experience.

Inside, the Mazda presents a driving cockpit that is driver-oriented – features include twin meters for the driver, a leather-covered steering wheel, and a leather gear shift knob. New character illumination improves reading ease for the multi-information display on the instrument panel. A rear air-conditioner vent channels cool air to the rear passengers.

The powerplant is a 2.0 litre engine with Sequential Valve timing (S-VT) with an electronic throttle. Mated to a 5-speed automatic gearbox with Active Adaptive Shift (AAS), the Mazda5 features slope control and adapts to driver patterns.

The Mazda5 inherits the NCAP 5 rating of its predecessor, has a three-point seat belt in every seat, and SRS airbags for the driver and front passenger. ISOFIX points and top tether anchor points for child seats are also available.

Seven colours are available – Clear Water Blue, Copper Red, Aluminium Metallic, Stormy Blue, Crystal White Pearl, Metropolitan Grey and Brilliant Black.
