Land Rover Defender now locally assembled

Fans of the original Land Rover can now get brand new units of its descendant model at an affordable (relatively speaking) price. Land Rover (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd has just launched locally assembled units of the Defender 110 Double Cab pick-up for our market.

Built at Inokom’s plant in Kulim, Kedah, the Defender is priced at RM148,888 for Peninsula Malaysia and RM152,388 for East Malaysia (excluding insurance). Items bundled into the package include power windows, 16″ alloy rims, and leather seats.

Although mechanicals of the Defender can be traced all the way back to 1948 with the original Land Rover Series I, it now comes with a very much up-to-date 2.4-litre inline-4 turbodiesel engine which makes 122hp and 360Nm and mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

The utilitarian theme of the Defender continues inside, with a revised cabin continuing to focus on outright toughness and durability. Land Rover claims that materials used for the Defender’s dash are ‘scuff-free and able to withstand extreme weather conditions’.
