J.D. Power: New vehicle quality on the drop
Results of the latest edition of the J.D. Power Asia Pacific 2010 Malaysia Initial Quality Study (IQS) has just been released, with figures suggesting a slight but notable decline in overall quality of vehicles sold in Malaysia.
Now in its eighth year, the study examines the quality of new vehicles during the first two to six months of vehicle ownership, focusing on eight areas – vehicle exterior; driving experience; features/controls/displays; audio/entertainment/navigation; seats; HVAC; vehicle interior; and engine/transmission. Problems are then summarized as the number of problems reported per 100 vehicles (PP100).
Results were analyzed based on responses from 2,642 new-vehicle owners who purchased their vehicle between September 2009 and May 2010. The study, fielded between March and July 2010, includes 47 passenger car, pickup and utility vehicle models from 13 brands.
For 2010, the industrial average of quality problems with vehicles stand at 147 PP100, up 11 PP100 from 2009. The five areas that register the most notable increases are vehicle exterior; features/controls/displays; audio/entertainment/navigation; vehicle interior; and engine/transmission.
