ETCM: Malaysia market Nissans not affected by global recall

by -

Nissan Motor Ltd yesterday announced a global recall affecting some 2.14 million of its cars. According to a statement from the company, the recall, the third largest in its history, relates to a problem in the ignition-system relay for vehicles produced from August 2003 through July 2006.

The recall affects cars produced in produced in Japan, the United States, Great Britain, Spain, China and Taiwan. Models affected by the recall include the March, Cube, Note, Tiida sedan, Titan pickup and Infiniti QX56. According to Nissan, this problem in the ignition relay could potentially result in the engine stalling and being unable to start.

Most of the abovementioned models are not sold in Malaysia, though we are aware that parallel importers have brought in units of the Cube. However, the Nissan Tiida is in actual fact the Latio in Malaysia, and small numbers of the Nissan March were sold here in the early 2000s.

Earlier today, a statement was published by Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd reassuring its customers that majority of its vehicles, including the Latio, are NOT affected by the recall. The sole model subject to a Safety Service Campaign is the March, which was brought in as a CBU from Japan.

The safety check can be done by appointment at the nearest Tan Chong Express Auto Service centre or during the scheduled maintenance service. All labour and replacement parts for the safety check will be free-of-charge.

Nissan March owners may contact the nearest Tan Chong Express Auto Service Centre or Customer Service Hotline at Toll FREE line: 1800-88-8368 for a safety check appointment.
