Hyundai Sonata YF recalled in US

by -

Yesterday, Hyundai announced the recall of nearly 140,000 units of the new 2011 Sonata YF in North America. The recall affects units of the Sonata YF produced in Hyundai’s plant in Alabama, USA from 11 December 2009 to 10 September 2010.

Vehicles affected by the recall will undergo an inspection of their steering column intermediate shaft universal joint connections for proper assembly and torque. Findings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) suggest that consequence of this failure could lead to “a complete separation or compromised attachment of the connections, such that the driver could experience a loss of, or reduction in, steering capability increasing the risk of a crash.”

In response to the recall, local Hyundai distributors, Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors Sdn Bhd has moved to issue a statement assuring its customers that Malaysian-market Sonatas are not affected by the recall. Sonata units bound for our market are manufactured in Korea.

So, people, there’s nothing wrong with your Sonatas here. Carry on driving.
