Mercedes reports strong sales in 1st half of 2010
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) today issued a press statement announcing the company’s sales performance over the first half of 2010. Its three bread and butter models, the C-Class, E-Class, and S-Class all dominated their respective segments leading to a 29% year-on-year increase to chalk in a total of 2,417 sales for the said period.
The reasons for this healthy increase in sales, we suspect, are due to rebounding market conditions, and that each of the three models were given a massive boost in showroom appeal. An all-new E-Class ushered in the year for MBM, while the S-Class was boosted by a midlife facelift. The C-Class also received new vigour thanks to the introduction of the highly acclaimed CGI engines.
With the new C 200 CGI and C 250 CGI replacing the C 200 Kompressor and C 230 V6, the C-Class registered an impressive year-on-year sales growth of 28%, with 1,097 units sold in the first half of the year. The all-new W212 E-Class, with its line up of the E 200 CGI, E 250 CGI, and E 300 registered a massive 44% increase in sales with 988 units sold for the same period. Meanwhile, the flagship S-Class had to make do with a more modest growth of 10%, with 158 units sold.
The company’s commercial vehicle’s arm also recorded encouraging growth, with Mitsubishi Fuso selling 694 trucks, boosted by the new Euro II Canter launched in April. The company is well on track to achieve a targeted 1,700 sales this year.
Globally, the Mercedes brand is in similarly rude health, with 113,300 Mercs sold worldwide in June 2010, a 13% year-on-year increase. Indeed, reports of rising sales in Malaysia are entirely in keeping with global trends as every region registered growth. Worldwide, Mercedes sold a a total of 556,700 vehicles, up from 483,300 in 2009
