Mitsubishi adds Lancer EX to line-up

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) yesterday introduced a new variant of the Lancer sedan. Dubbed the Lancer EX, it is presented as an elegant and toned-down alternative to the sportier Lancer GT. It commands a smaller price tag too; inclusive of insurance, the EX costs RM120,980 in the Peninsula, a full RM3k cheaper than the GT.

Equipment offered on the EX includes Keyless engine start, leather seats, and cruise control. It also features, notably, a 2-DIN touch screen LCD with an integrated GPS system. Externally, the EX differentiates itself from the GT with more chrome linings than its sportier brethren, and also wears far more affordable rubber, with 205/60 donuts wrapping around 16″ rims.

Running gear of the Lancer EX is familiar to all of us, with the 1,998cc 4B11 engine once again at the heart of matters. Featuring twin camshafts acting in tandem with the MIVEC system, it produces 153hp @ 6,000rpm and 199Nm @ 4,250rpm. The INVECS-III CVT with 6-step Sports Mode also remains to send power to the front wheels.

After sales, buyers of the Lancer are covered by a 2-year/50,000km free maintenance programme further enhanced by a 5-year/100,000km warranty. In the unfortunate event of breakdowns, the ‘Mitsubishi Assist 24′ card ensures round-to-clock back up is but a phone call away.

The Lancer EX is MMM’s final car launch under the watch of CEO Mr Keizo Ono. It was announced during the launch that Ono-san will be stepping down from the captain’s chair and handing over the reigns to a new CEO Mr Tetsuya Oda.
