Continental CC5 tyre now available in Malaysia

by -

Continental Sime Tyre Sdn Bhd (CST) officially launched the all-new Continental ContiComfortContact CC5 passenger car road tyre for the Malaysian market yesterday. Discussions on this tyre have been active in our forums since May, but it was only yesterday that members of the press were given a thorough briefing on the tyre’s characteristics and features.

Launched to replace the ComfortContact-1, the CC5 will command an estimated 10% higher price compared to CC1 tyres of equivalent size. The CC1 will not be immediately phased out, however, as it is widely used by manufacturers as an OEM tyre. CST is currently working with the said companies to gradually incorporate the CC5 into their products instead.

Unlike the bi-directional CC1, the CC5 features an asymmetrical pattern and will be offered in a wider variety of sizes. The tyre’s outer side features wider lateral grooves for improved wet grip, while its inner side is engineered for lower road noise and better comfort.

Engineered to cater for Asian demands, which have higher requirements for comfort and low road noise without willing to compromise on outright grip, the CC5 features a unique technology called the ‘noise breaker’. Essentially small unique lumps positioned along the longitudinal grooves, the noise breakers break air waves along the longitudinal direction, an action claimed to result in significantly reduced road noise – a key selling point pushed by CST for this tyre.

Lateral grooves of the CC5 are chamfered, which helps minimize ‘roll-in’ effect under hard braking, thus improving handling. The V-shaped pattern adopted by the inner ribs is said to provide smoother rolling and thus improve the tyre’s overall comfort. Narrower variants of the CC5 will feature a 4-rib pattern design, while the wider ones will have a 5-rib design.

Currently produced in Alor Star, Kedah, the CC5’s size ranges from 165 to 225 section, and from 50 series to 70 series. Wheel diameter varies from 13″ to 16″. The full range of sizes are listed in the discussion thread in our forums accessible through the Talk About It link below.
