Shell introduces new V-Power 97 petrol

by -

Shell Malaysia today launched the new Shell V-Power 97 petrol, which is said to offer ‘improved power & performance for any car they drive’, at the same price of regular RON 97, currently set at RM2.05/litre. As a result, the new Shell V-Power 97 petrol will take the place of Shell FuelSave Unleaded 97, and will be marketed alongside Shell FuelSave Unleaded 95 and Shell V-Power Racing, which will both also continue at unchanged prices.

Speaking at the launching ceremony today, En Azman Ismail, Managing Director of Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd said, “Contrary to popular belief, not all fuels are the same. At Shell, we are committed to making better fuels for our customers and their cars. With over a century of experience in fuel development, the experts at Shell have introduced Shell V-Power 97to meet Malaysian customers’ demand for a performance fuel.”

“Today we are proud to make available to Malaysian motorists, Shell V-Power 97 which is designed to help your car achieve its performance potential, whatever car you drive, at the same regulated price for RON 97 that motorists are familiar with,” added Azman.

As explained by Mr Eric Holthusen, Fuel Technology Manager, Asia Pacific, Shell Global Solutions, the key selling point of the new Shell V-Power 97 is that it boasts the same Friction Modification Technology (FMT) additive as used by Ferrari in Formula One races. Research and development of FMT has been ongoing in Shell labs for the past 10 years, with the additive first seeing usage in 2005 for F1, and then debuting on the road a year later in the V-Power Racing fuel.

Compared to the outgoing FuelSave Unleaded 97 formula, addition of the FMT additive helps with cleaning-up of the engine internals, thus leading to better responsiveness. The fuel was developed following customer feedback calling for more performance at an affordable price.

The higher-end V-Power Racing fuel will continue to be offered at selected stations targeted at owners of high performance cars. In most markets, this fuel is offered with the RON rating equivalent to the highest available at that said market. It’s somewhat special for Malaysia, where the RON rating of V-Power is guaranteed to be at a minimum of 97, but could be higher depending on batch produced.

Effective today, Shell V-Power 97 will be available at more than 750 Shell stations nationwide alongside FuelSave Unleaded 95. However, Shell V-Power Racing will only be offered at 40 stations around Klang Valley and Johor. It was explained to us that the inability of most stations to offer all three types of petrol marketed by Shell is due to most stations having only enough tanks to cater for two types of petrol at any one time.
