BMW Wins Global Safety & Design Awards
BMW’s new F10 5 Series has been certified to the maximum 5-star rating under the much-vaunted Euro NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) crash tests. At the same time, it was also declared a winner at the 2010 Auto Bild Design Award together with the X1 and Vision EfficientDynamics concept in their respective categories.
“These accomplishments serve as further proof that BMW is the true leader in the premium vehicle segment, and are a true testament to the success of our design philosophy and strategies.” said Mr Geoffrey Briscoe, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia.
EuroNCAP, which tested the F10 in left-hand drive 530d guise, praised the car’s ‘extremely stable passenger cell which ensures extensive protection from injury’ for its occupants. From the Euro NCAP official website, the F10 scored 95% for Adult Occupants, 83% for Child Occupants, 78% for Pedestrians, and 100% for Safety Assist. Scores for Safety Assist rating are given based on the presence of speed limitation assistance, electronic stability programme, and seat belt warning.
In addition to its Euro NCAP success, the F10 also picked up an award in the 2010 Auto Bild Design Awards, which had 40 million readers nominating the best designed cars of the year. Also winning their respective categories were the X1 (we certainly didn’t see this one coming) and the Vision EfficientDynamics concept.
